Plot Summary
Hrothgar, the king of the Danes, is very successful from his battles and holds great prosperity. To exemplify his power and success he built the spectacular mead-hall, named Herot, where the warriors could gather and basically socialize. Annoyed with all the happiness and music of Herot, the monster from Cain named Grendel attacks the hall eating and killing many men. He continuously enacts these raids until the hall is total havoc and terror. Beowulf, a young Geat warrior, decides he needs to travel to eliminate the evil Grendel. After arriving, Beowulf keeps watch until Grendel returns for his attack and reaches for Beowulf. Beowulf fights back with his brute strength and determination completely tearing Grendel's arm off killing him.
Beowulf's victory is celebrated with a great feast and treasure from king Hrothgar. That night, Grendel's mother makes an evil return seeking vengeance for her sons death. She quickly consumes a fellow warrior and evades the hall quickly. The warriors trace her steps back to a lake where the one and only Beowulf jumps in to fight her. Upon reaching her deep and dark cave, Beowulf and Grendel's mother battle. Beowulf struggles to penetrate her with his own sword and in a quick and desperate measure, grabs a giant sword from her cave to slice her in half killing her. Beowulf locates Grendel's life-less body deep below and beheads him as payback for the problems he caused, returning his head to Hrothgar.
The death of Grendel's mother is celebrated with gifts and happiness. Beowulf unfortunately has to return to his homeland and is dearly missed by his biggest fan Hrothgar. Upon returning to the land of the Geat's, Beowulf's uncle,Hygelac, is killed. Beowulf takes over the throne and rules successfully for 50 years. When a thief manages to awaken the dragon upon stealing, it causes mass destruction of Beowulf's land. Old Beowulf accompanied with his loyal follower, Wiglaf and many other warriors set out to defeat the dragon. Upon confronting the dragon, everyone fleas except for Beowulf and Wiglaf. Beowulf is attacked and mortally wounded from the dragon and Wiglaf steps in and kills the evil dragon. Before death arises over Beowulf, he tells Wiglaf to rule after him and build a mound in his honor.
